We read over on Best of Twitter Chirpstory that the Food Festival is to commence this weekend starting on the Waterfront at the Radisson Blu Hotel in St Helier. The festival is a nine day celebration of the very best from Jersey's food producers.

The annual Jersey Food Festival includes alfresco foodie events and trails, fishing and farm tours and runs from 19 May 2012 - 27 May 2012

In its second year, the 2012 food festival will provide a showcase for local producers, chefs and restaurateurs. May is one of the most beautiful months to visit Jersey. It is the peak harvest of the outdoor Royals and the countryside is filled with wild flowers as well as our most famous island resident – the Jersey cow!

Meet some of Jersey’s very best foodie people as they share their passions and show us how it is done with the finest local ingredients and ‘Genuine Jersey’ produce. Enjoy fine dining in Michelin starred restaurants, low water rambles and other seafood delicacies, hedgerow foraging, food and ale trails, tutored tastings, brewery and dairy tours and al fresco picnics.

The tide is up and the Irish Sea spreads out calm and flat and looking as though it goes on for ever into the misty-milk distance. Children toss pebbles into the water. Elderly folk sit on benches reading the papers, occasionally turning to one another to chuckle over a story. It’s incredibly quiet, save for the odd squeal of an enormous seagull.

The “Arab spring” actually started in Tunisia on December 17, when 26-year-old Mohamed Bouazizi, a fruit-seller from the centre of the country, set himself on fire in protest at his cart being confiscated. This was the catalyst for demonstrations, a presidential retreat and the promise of free elections. The mood is now generally optimistic, and, while recent weeks have seen small-scale demonstrations and industrial action, there are currently no FO travel restrictions.

Certainly, there are no-go areas, such as Libya, Bahrain, Yemen and Syria. How are things on the periphery, in Lebanon, the Gulf states, Lebanon and Oman
