I LOVE Web Check In - But Does Air Canada Get It?

January 11th 2009 00:13
Web check-in is a great thing. You get the paperwork done at home, or at your hotel, and show up at the airport, bags in hand, ready to put them in the hold and board the plane.

There's a separate lineup (at least in the Canadian airports I've been through in the last year or so) for those with boarding passes.

The problem is, Air Canada seems to be treating the people with boarding passes as less worthy of attention than those who didn't do the supposedly time-saving web check-in thing.

Hang on! Isn't that backwards?

I waited about 40 minutes in Edmonton, Alberta, in early December 2008. I waited about the same length of time in Fort McMurray, Alberta on the same trip. Now there were other problems that weekend. Lots of flights were delayed and the weather was bad for flying, not just in Alberta, but nationally. Still, why even have a separate line if you are just going to ignore it?

Strange.

To give credit to the counter staff in Fort McMurray, they were short-handed and the front line people were still pleasant and friendly. It's just a silly system, somewhere.
